How does the drive count in LAGE?

Around Vienna, LAGE takes the better of public transport and the car for its time to Vienna, and the method explains how. If the time to Vienna matters more to you than the green, set your own priorities. The story Living around Vienna and commuting to Vienna, in figures gives the trip by public transport.

How we counted

The address register of the BEV gives every address, and each address counts once, however many flats it has. The drive follows the roads of OpenStreetMap between Stephansplatz and each address, at 85 % of each road's speed limit, or a typical speed for its type of road where the limit is missing from the map. The drive is for empty roads and leaves out the search for a parking space. Each town's figure is the median of its addresses. A town's distance is the middle distance of its addresses to Vienna's city border, as the crow flies. The ranking counts the towns with at least 60 addresses. The data is from 23 October 2026.

Every figure in this story comes from the same open data as the maps and address pages of Lagecheck, counted per address from the address register. The data stands as of 23 October 2026.
