For each address in Linz, we check whether it lies inside a flood area of the official flood maps. The maps mark three areas. The 30-year (HQ30) and the 100-year area (HQ100) show where a flood of that size reaches, and the 300-year area (HQ300) shows the reach of an extreme flood. The neighbourhoods Lagecheck compares are statistical areas of Statistik Austria, each named after a street or a place inside it, and we rank the ones with at least 60 addresses. The map of Linz shows every neighbourhood. The report of each address names its flood area.

For eight of the ten neighbourhoods at the top, the two measures give the same share, as every address in a flood area also lies in the 30- or 100-year area. The Industriezeile area differs most. There 45.4 % of the addresses, 89, lie in a flood area of up to 300 years and 16.8 %, 33, in the 30- or 100-year areas. Most of its flood addresses lie in the 300-year area only, so it moves from fifth place to eighth.

How we counted

The flood maps come from the federal ministry BMLUK, which publishes them under the EU Floods Directive, here in the edition of 2026. They cover the larger rivers. Small streams and surface runoff after heavy rain are missing from these maps, so an address outside the mapped areas can still flood. The address register of the BEV gives every address, and each address counts once, however many flats it has. An address counts toward a flood area when its location lies inside the mapped area.

The report of each address names its flood area, and the map of Linz shows each neighbourhood. The method explains how a flood area lowers LAGE, and on your priorities you set how much each part counts. Living in Linz gives the other measures for the whole city.

Every figure in this story comes from the same open data as the maps and address pages of Lagecheck, counted per address from the address register. The data stands as of 12 October 2026.
