LAGE, a score from 0 to 100, sums up an address as a place to live: quiet, clean air, public transport, green space and errands on foot. Natural hazards such as floods lower it. We work it out for each address in Graz with the same rules, from open data. For each neighbourhood and district, the tables give the median, the score of the address in the middle once all of them are lined up. The neighbourhoods Lagecheck compares are statistical areas of Statistik Austria, each named after a street or place inside it, and the comparison keeps those with at least 60 addresses. The map of Graz shows every neighbourhood, and the profile of Graz gives noise, air, heat and flood figures for the whole city.
45,186 addresses. 210 neighbourhoods. 17 districts. A city median of 59.

Why do quiet, green areas like the Raachgasse area score low?
The Raachgasse area scores low because LAGE uses a geometric mean, so its 5 for transit and 12 for errands weigh more than its 96 for green space. A green area far from the next stop ends up below a neighbourhood where every part is good, and the same holds for one with every shop nearby on a loud street. The method also lowers LAGE for natural hazards such as floods, and that factor stays outside the tables. The story on the quietest neighbourhoods of Graz shows road noise area by area, and the story on public transport in Graz compares the districts by their stops.
Can I weight the parts myself?
The profile page lets you set your own priorities for the five parts and the errands that count. The standard LAGE weights the five parts equally. If the tram stop matters more to you than the park, give transit more weight, and the map of Graz colours every neighbourhood by your own LAGE. The method page gives the rule for each part.
How we counted
The address register of the BEV gives every address, and each address counts once, however many flats it has. Road noise comes from the strategic noise maps 2022 of the federal ministry BMLUK, and flood areas come from the same ministry. The air comes from the model of the European Environment Agency, public transport from the ÖV-Güteklassen 2025 of the ÖROK, and parks, shops, doctors and schools from OpenStreetMap. Noise and air are model values, and distances are as the crow flies. The data is as of 7 October 2026.
The neighbourhood figures cover the 210 neighbourhoods with at least 60 addresses, and the district figures cover every address of the 17 districts. Rents, prices and safety stay outside LAGE. The score describes the location.
