The best areas to live in Innsbruck, by the LAGE score

Igls has the highest LAGE of the eight cadastral communities in Innsbruck, with a median of 74 across 600 addresses, against 61 for the whole city. LAGE is our score from 0 to 100 for a place to live. Vill follows with 68 and Mühlau with 66, and Wilten comes last of the eight with 55. Igls and Vill have medians of 95 for quiet, 96 and 95 for green space, and 79 and 71 for errands on foot, against 96 for the city.

LAGE, a score from 0 to 100, sums up an address as a place to live: quiet, clean air, public transport, green space and errands on foot. Natural hazards such as floods lower it. We work it out for each address in Innsbruck with the same rules, from open data. For each part of the city, the table gives the median, the score of the address in the middle once all of them are lined up. The data names the cadastral community of an address, such as Hötting, Wilten or Pradl, and leaves the field empty for the city centre. The neighbourhoods are statistical areas of Statistik Austria, each named after a street or a place inside it. The map of Innsbruck shows every neighbourhood.

13,319 addresses. 8 cadastral communities. 93 neighbourhoods with at least 60 addresses.

The addresses of the city centre, where the data leaves the cadastral community empty, stay outside this table.

Igls and Vill lie at the southern edge of the city, and both have a median of 95 for quiet, against 75 for the city. For green space Igls has 96 and Vill 95, while the city median is 55. Their weaker parts are public transport and errands on foot. Both have 78 for transit, below the 90 of the city, and Igls has 79 and Vill 71 for errands, against 96 for the city. The two highest places trade the short walk for quiet streets and green space.

Why does Wilten come last of the eight?

Wilten has the lowest medians of the eight for quiet and for air, 54 and 37, against 75 and 44 for the city. At the same time, Wilten has 99 for errands on foot, above the 96 of the city, and 90 for public transport, the city median. Pradl also has 99 for errands and 90 for transit, and its median LAGE is 63. LAGE uses a geometric mean, so one weak part weighs more than in a plain average. An address with every shop nearby on a loud street ends up below an address where every part is good. The method also lowers LAGE for natural hazards such as floods, and that factor stays outside the table.

How do the neighbourhoods of Igls, Hötting and Wilten compare?

Inside Igls, the Gletscherblick area has a median of 76 across 200 addresses and the Lanser Straße area 74 across 270. Both have 95 for quiet and 78 for transit, like Igls as a whole. Both rank among the ten highest of the 93 neighbourhoods.

Hötting has neighbourhoods among both the ten highest and the ten lowest. The Lohbachweg B area has the highest median of the 93 neighbourhoods, 77 across 107 addresses, with 100 for transit and 100 for errands. The Höttinger Au area has 44 across 80 addresses, with 27 for quiet and 38 for air. Hötting, the one of the eight with the most addresses, 4,227, has a median of 63, close to the 61 of the city.

In Wilten, the Karwendelbögen area has 47 and the Weingartnerstraße area 41 across 200 addresses. The Karwendelbögen area has 33 for quiet and 43 for green space, and the Weingartnerstraße area 55 for quiet and 78 for transit. Both lie below the median of Wilten.

Six of the eight neighbourhoods with the lowest medians, from 37 to 46, lie in the city centre, one in Wilten and one in Hötting. The Mariahilfstraße area has the lowest, 37 across 81 addresses. Its addresses lie in a mapped flood area, which lowers LAGE, as the flood story shows. The profile of Innsbruck lists the ten highest and the ten lowest neighbourhoods.

Can I weight the parts myself?

The profile page lets you set your own priorities for the five parts. The standard LAGE weights them equally. If the bus stop matters more to you than the forest, give it more weight, and the map of Innsbruck colours every neighbourhood by your own LAGE. The method page gives the rule for each part.

How we counted

The address register of the BEV gives every address, and each address counts once, however many flats it has. Road noise comes from the strategic noise maps 2022 of the federal ministry BMLUK, and flood areas come from the same ministry. The air comes from the model of the European Environment Agency, public transport from the ÖV-Güteklassen 2025 of the ÖROK, and parks, shops, doctors and schools from OpenStreetMap. Noise and air are model values, and distances are as the crow flies. The data is as of 12 October 2026.

The neighbourhood figures cover the 93 neighbourhoods with at least 60 addresses. Rents, prices and safety stay out of LAGE. The score describes the location.

Every figure in this story comes from the same open data as the maps and address pages of Lagecheck, counted per address from the address register. The data stands as of 12 October 2026.
