LAGE, a score from 0 to 100, sums up an address as a place to live in five parts, quiet, clean air, public transport, green space and errands on foot. Natural hazards such as floods lower it. We work it out for each address in Villach with the same rules, from open data. For each place, the table gives the median, the score of the address in the middle once all its addresses are lined up by score. The neighbourhoods are statistical areas of Statistik Austria, each named after a street inside it, and the table names the cadastral community of each one, such as Lind, Auen or St. Martin. The map of Villach shows every neighbourhood.

13,186 addresses. 47 neighbourhoods with at least 60 addresses. 58 cadastral communities.

The leading areas reach their score in two ways. The Ringmauergasse area has 100 for public transport and 87 for quiet, and the Fercher-v.-Steinwand-Straße area has 100 for errands on foot. The Nürnberger Straße area has 50 for public transport, the city median, and 82 for both green space and errands. Four of the ten highest lie in the Innere Stadt, and each of the four has 90 or more for public transport.

Which neighbourhoods of Villach have the lowest LAGE?

The Schütter Straße area in Unterschütt has the lowest median of the 47, 38 across 184 addresses. It has 100 for green space and 80 for air. It also has 25 for public transport and 6 for errands on foot. The Bleiberger Straße area in Heiligengeist and the Michaeler Straße area in Drautschen share 42, with 6 and 12 for errands.

LAGE uses a geometric mean, so one weak part weighs more than in a plain average. An address with quiet streets and green space, and with few shops and little public transport, ends up below an address where every part lies in the middle range. The method also lowers LAGE for natural hazards such as floods, and that factor stays outside the table.

How much do neighbourhoods differ within one cadastral community?

Two cadastral communities have neighbourhoods at both ends of the table. In Auen, the Kiesweg area has 67 and the Richtstraße area 54. The Richtstraße area has 17 for green space and 74 for quiet. In Völkendorf, the St.Johanner Straße area has 68 and the Warmbader Allee area 51. The Warmbader Allee area has 38 for air and 16 for green space, and the St.Johanner Straße area has 90 for green space. The two lower areas both have 78 for public transport.

Which cadastral communities of Villach have the highest LAGE?

Among the 58 cadastral communities, St. Martin has the highest median, 70 across 274 addresses. St. Martin has 88 for errands on foot and 65 for public transport, both above the city medians of 64 and 50. Untere Fellach follows with 68 and St. Agathen und Perau with 66. Both have 50 for public transport, the city median, and 79 and 89 for errands.

These three lie outside the Innere Stadt, which comes fourth with 65. The Innere Stadt has the highest medians of all 58 for public transport, 90, and for errands, 97, and it has 39 for green space, against 72 for the city. Neulandskron, in fifth place with 64, shows the reverse, with 96 for green space and 43 for errands. Serai comes last with 27. The profile of Villach ranks all 58, and the profile of the Innere Stadt gives its public transport in figures.

Can I weight the parts myself?

The profile page lets you set your own priorities for the five parts. The standard LAGE weights them equally. If the bus stop matters more to you than the meadow, give it more weight, and the map of Villach colours every neighbourhood by your own LAGE. The method page gives the rule for each part.

How we counted

The address register of the BEV gives every address, and each address counts once, however many flats it has. Road noise comes from the strategic noise maps 2022 of the federal ministry BMLUK, and flood areas come from the same ministry. For the side streets of Villach, Lagecheck estimates how quiet an address is, so the quiet part there carries the label "estimated". The air comes from the model of the European Environment Agency, public transport from the ÖV-Güteklassen 2025 of the ÖROK, and parks, shops, doctors and schools from OpenStreetMap. Noise and air are model values, and distances are as the crow flies. The data is as of 12 October 2026.

The table shows the ten highest and the ten lowest of the 47 neighbourhoods with at least 60 addresses. Rents, prices and safety stay outside LAGE. The score describes the location.

Every figure in this story comes from the same open data as the maps and address pages of Lagecheck, counted per address from the address register. The data stands as of 12 October 2026.
